The Cued Speech Association is very pleased to support the Memory 4 teachers initiative.

The Cued Speech Association UK is a small national registered charity which is the only organisation in the UK providing information about and training in Cued Speech, a simple system of cues which totally clarify lipreading.

Because it is not a language, just a way of clarifying spoken language, Cued Speech can be learned in just 20 hours, making it extremely cost-effective. It is a sound-based system which uses eight handshapes in four positions around the mouth together with the lipshapes of normal speech to give complete and unambiguous access to spoken language. Through Cued Speech deaf and hearing-impaired children are able to fully access phonics teaching within the classroom.

International research shows that deaf children brought up with Cued Speech can achieve the same literacy levels, academic achievement and integration into the family and society as hearing children. For more information, see their website:
