The Fairtrade Foundation is pleased to be working with the Memory4Teachers campaign

The Fairtrade Foundation is pleased to be working with the Memory4Teachers campaign to provide resources for teachers to explore Fairtrade with their classes, and to promote the Fairtrade Schools Award as a means to learning about sustainable development and global citizenship.

The Fairtrade Foundation is the UK organisation that works with businesses, community groups and individuals to improve the trading position of producers in the South and to deliver sustainable livelihoods for farmers, workers and their communities.

Many products we enjoy in the UK (such as cocoa, tea, coffee and many types of fruit) are grown in Africa, Asia or Latin America, by farmers who earn little for their hard work. Sadly, unfair trade rules and the power of big companies often means that farmers earn less money than it costs them to grow their products. This keeps them in poverty and means they are unable to invest in their future.Fairtrade ensures farmers earn a decent living. By choosing products with the FAIRTRADE Mark you can ensure that your money is helping people to work their way out of poverty, rather than keeping them there.

Fairtrade Schools

The Fairtrade Schools Award has been running since 2007 and gives schools an opportunity to demonstrate their commitment to Fairtrade. Learning about Fairtrade helps young people understand how their actions can affect people in the wider world, and how trade works.

Fairtrade supports teaching of global citizenship and sustainable development and provides opportunities to enhance many areas of the curriculum. Teaching about Fairtrade can support and contribute towards many awards and initiatives such as DCSF Sustainable Schools and Eco-Schools. The Fairtrade Schools Award was devised in collaboration with the Fairtrade Foundation’s partner organisations and is supported by teaching resources produced by several partner organisations.
