Morrisons Let's Grow was partly inspired by Morrisons' key brand and product proposition of 'fresh', with the aim to show children that food doesn't just come from supermarkets. It supports education through the practical experience of growing fruit and vegetables at school. A fundamental element of Let's Grow is it's support for learning outside the classroom.
A major part of the Let's Grow programme is the nationwide voucher reward scheme in which participating schools can collect vouchers and exchange them for gardening equipment. Collection is for 8 weeks and normally starts in September.
Alongside the gardening equipment, the programme offers a range of supporting educational resources for teachers that link to the National Curriculum and the Government's 'Growing Schools' agenda, which encourages learning outside the classroom, and specifically emphasises the benefits of gardens, gardening and green space. By encouraging children to connect with the living environment and interact with plants it provides a rich hands-on learning experience in which formal and informal education can flourish. Let's Grow will inspire pupils to follow a healthier diet and lifestyle through the practical experience of growing vegetables in the school grounds.
