National coal mining museum
Travel 140 meters underground down one of Britain's oldest working mines, where models and machinery depict methods and conditions of mining from 1800's to present. Your guide for the trip will be a local ex-miner. Above ground visit the shop, cafe, pit ponies, steam winder, pithead baths, nature trail, adventure playground or take a train ride.
